show. Recently he was named as winner of Blues
Critic's 2005 "Best New Male Artist"
award, as voted by Blues Critic readers/visitors.
Lindsey was born in Virginia; raised in Michigan
but his Soul extends from the Motor City (Detroit)
to the Deep South.
C.
Allen: Thanks for agreeing to do this
interview it's a pleasure and an honor to
have you take time out of your busy schedule.
Well start by telling our viewers who Al Lindsey
is and how your musical career started?
Al:
Well, I started like most artists at the
age of 14 years old I was singing lead in
the church choir and by age 17 I had started
my own group and was singing in night clubs.
Also, my career continued to progress over
20 years after the army.
C.
Allen: I understand you are referred to
as the "Singin' Doc" how did that
originated?
Al:
That name was given to me by a radio DJ
by the name of Kurt Roby because of my medical
background and career.
C.
Allen: Are you currently on a record label
at this point in your career, if yes with
who and if not, why?
Al:
No, In 1986 I was signed to Ren City Records
for about a year until they went under. Currently
I'm an independent by choice because I have
more creative control over what's being released,
album song selections and ownership of my
music.
C.
Allen: How would you classify and rate
yourself as an artist?
Al:
As a soul singer; balladeer; raw; smooth delivery
with the ability to be feisty when necessary.
C.
Allen: How many albums have you released?
Al:
I've released a demo and (2) albums, the first
was titled "Caught" it was nominated
in 2005 for Southern Soul "Best Male
Artist of the Year" and the new album
is titled" So In Love".
C.
Allen: If you had to say one name, who
would you say is your all time favorite artist
and why?
Al:
Sam Cooke, because he was musical genius;
a great vocalist with phenomenal phrasing
and his style of bending notes was superb.
C.
Allen: Who are some of your other favorites
I know there are many?
Al:
Yes there are, I would have to say Marvin
Gaye; Johnnie Taylor; Bobbie Womack; Willie
Clayton; Rue Davis and J. Blackfoot.
C.
Allen: I've had the pleasure of listening
to your new album titled "So In Love"
that's taking the charts by storm. It's terrific,
electrifying and very easy listening, would
you tell us about it?
Al:
Basically each song tells a story for instance
the song titled "Missing You" deals
with the different aspects of love; "Call
Me" deals with the pain and agony of
love; and "Let's take a Chance"
talks about the risks and wanting to get to
know someone special.
C.
Allen: If you had a choice which would
you prefer to perform clubs or large venues?
Al:
I would have to say clubs only because they
tend to allow me the opportunity to get up
close and personal with my fans.
C.
Allen: Before I let you go do you have
anyone you would like to thank?
Al:
Yes, I would like to say a special thank you
to God for blessing me with a special gift
of singing, my family and close friends, my
fans, promoters, DJ's and radio stations that
continue to play my music.
C.
Allen: Al, as usual it's always a pleasure
speaking with you, I wish you much continued
success in your musical journey, I hope this
won't be our last time, continue to make God
the head of your life and he will guide your
career to newer and higher levels.
Thanks you!
